Admission Process

Timing & Intake

Karimganj Law College has the B.C.I. permission for single section of LL.B. course. Therefore, it has yearly intake capacity of 60 (sixty) students only. The institution follows the system of first come first serve principle in the process of admission of students.

The fresh admission into this college is initiated once every year generally from the month of May. Graduates of any discipline having at least 45% marks in graduation are eligible to make application for admission. The applicant will be admitted on the basis of first come first serve principle up to the fulfillment of 60 (sixty) seats. [5 percent relaxation of marks in admission is available for candidates having a special category]. There is no age restriction for admission into the LL.B. course.

Eligibility Criteria

Therefore, Graduates of any discipline from recognized under the UGC rules have at least:

  • 45% marks in Graduation for any General Category Candidate and
  • 40% marks in Graduation for any Special Category Candidate may apply for admission into Karimganj Law College. However, his/her chance of admission depends on the availability of seats within the intake capacity of 60 (sixty) students.

However, the college authority is planning to initiate merit-based admission opportunities on the basis of an entrance examination from the academic years to come.

Fee Structure

The Fee Structure of the College is divided into two major categories, i.e., Institutional Fees and Tuition Fees. The total amount of fees to be collected from a student in an Academic Year are fixed once for both semesters by the executive authority, i.e., Steering Committee of the College prior to the beginning of an academic year.

The College authority follows a Uniform Fee Structure applicable for all batches of students in a particular academic year. The College authority always tries to keep the total amount of fees within a reasonable limit and also assures that the increase in the total amount of fees in a new academic year will be within the maximum of 10 percent per year. However, every student willing to continue his study in a semester has to pay the specified fees applicable for that semester for that academic year.

There are options of lumpsum and installment mode of payment of each semester’s fees. The College is an examination center and charges reasonable Examination Center Fees @ Rs. 200 / paper per applicant student.

Enrollment

The student who intends to take admission in Karimganj Law College have to apply through filling up and submission of Specified Application Form in the Office of the Principal furnishing the following documents within the notified time limit :

Required Documents:
  • Passport size recent photograph- Three copies
  • Admit Card of 10th Examination
  • 10th Passed Marksheet and Certificate
  • 12th Passed Marksheet and Certificate
  • Marksheet and Certificate of Graduation
  • Either of the two Documents:
    • Registration Certificate issued by Assam University, Silchar in case of students is already registered under Assam University, Silchar or
    • Original Migration Certificate from the university in which She/he has been registered as a regular student in a regular course of study. The original migration certificate have to be submitted along with two photostat copies one of which will be returned to the candidate as receipt of the same by the office of the college.
  • Filled up Application Form for Identity Card.
Registration

Through the process of enrollment, students are provisionally Admitted to Karimganj Law College which gets final only on successful completion of the online registration process under the portal of Assam University, Silchar. By successful completion of the online registration process, the registered students get an online account ID and Password under the university portal for their use. He/She then has to open his/her personal account to complete all other academic processes of the course curriculum including Application for Examination, Issue of Admit Card, declaration of result issue of mark sheet, etc.

Documents Necessary for Online Registration: For the purpose of online registration, the provisionally admitted students must have soft copies of the following documents with the specific description:

  • Soft Copy of Passport Size Photograph
  • Scan copy of Signature
  • Scan a copy of the Admit Card of the 10th Examination
  • SCAN copy of the Marksheet & Certificate of 12th Examination
  • Scan copy of the Marksheet & Certificate of Graduation
  • Scan copy of the Mark sheet and Certificate of Degrees onwards
  • Scan copy of the Registration Card of Assam University / Migration Card
  • Scan Copy of the Affidavit Specifying the Reason of Gap from study

The detailed procedure and timeline are notified by the university and students have to comply with the university guidelines in the process of online registration. This online registration process is a one-time process for the whole duration of the course.

The student may himself/herself try to complete the registration process. They may take the help of professionals and must take personal care of all entries in correct and complete form. However, if a student finds it difficult may approach the office of the college and take help in this regard.

Continuation/ Promotion

LL.B. (Three year) course curriculum under Assam University, Silchar is a semester-system course of study, and therefore, Karimganj Law College for matters of convenience requires promotion in the successive semesters one after other. Therefore, students have to complete the process of promotion for the initiation and completion of the required academic course of the semester. Non-compliance of the promotion process usually result into loss of academic year which he/she may continue with the students of junior batch.

Qualification for promotion: The student need not pass in any or all paper of semester-end external examination of the previous semester to take a promotion in any semester. However, he/she has to apply for the semester-end external examination of the previous semester and must qualify in the internal assessment of all the five papers of the previous semester. The system of appearing in backlog paper(s) allows a student to take a promotion in the next semester and appear the backlog paper(s) along with the papers of the regular semester.

The procedure of Promotion: For the promotion in to the next semester the students have to make application in a prescribed format attaching only the following documents and by paying the prescribed fees either in full or through installment mode. Therefore, for continuation or promotion to the next semester the students have to submit:

  • Filled-in Promotion Form in prescribed Format
  • Admit Card of the previous External Examination
  • Clearance Report of the previous fees and fines
  • Filled-in Form for Identity Card
  • Payment of Prescribed Fees.
